About the Position:

The Director of Accounting position is responsible for managing the activities of a large, multi-state, multi-industry, centralized accounting department to ensure the overall efficiency of operations in the department is maintained.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Oversee, mentor, and assist a team of approximately 10 accountants. 
  • Review current accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls, and make recommendations for improvements while documenting accordingly.  
  • Maintain the integrity of accounting systems (Sage 100 and Quickbooks) 
  • Ensure timeliness of month-end close (5-6 business days). 
  • Review financial statements prepared by staff, determine any items that need to be researched or explained, and present financials to the CFO for review prior to distribution to management. 
  • Learn the daily, weekly, and monthly tasks that are completed by the accounting team to gain an understanding of operations and be able to support the team as needed. 
  • Assist the CFO with projects, government surveys, and other reporting as required. 
  • Assist the Director of Human Resources and Payroll with the annual 401k audit as needed. 
  • Perform other tasks as needed. 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Project management and organization. 
  • Daily supervision of the accounting staff. 
  • Onboarding of all new hires, including assigning training of new hires by staff members. 
  • Performs staff annual reviews. 
  • Partners with human resources to request/review/present staff disciplinary action as needed.  
  • Monitors the accounting processes, compliance, and regulations while providing education and feedback.  
  • Serves as a resource for the accounting staff by answering questions, conducting training, preparing educational materials, and mentoring. 
  • Monitors staff assignments, targets, and workflow and ensures coverage. 
  • Maintains a comprehensive list of accounting assignments and ensures they are appropriate.  
  • Responsible for keeping the employee data accurate and current in the Paycom system. 

Required Skills & Abilities:

  • Home Health/Hospice experience preferred. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.  
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills. 
  • Detail-oriented, excellent prioritization and organizational skills. 
  • Ability to balance multiple projects and timelines simultaneously. 
  • Analytical thinking with the ability to exercise appropriate judgment and problem-solving abilities. 
  • Ability to prioritize action items in high-stress situations to meet deadlines.
  • Self-directed and able to work independently with little supervision. 
  • Ability to satisfactorily meet the Company’s measured goals and objectives. 
  • Ability to adapt to change. 
  • Ability to learn and become proficient in all workflows within each platform within the department. 
  • Proficient in all Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams. 
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel Skills required.  
  • Proficiency in Sage 100 and Quickbooks preferred. 
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English fluently.

Qualifications:

  • CPA designation required.  
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of progressive accounting experience including managing accounting staff. 
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting required.  Master’s degree in an accounting-related field preferred.  

Physical Demands:

  • The position is 100% in office and the core business hours are from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. After-hours may be necessary based on business needs.  
  • Repetitive motions that may include the wrist, hands, and/or fingers.
  • The ability to utilize a telephone, computer, keyboard, monitor, and other office equipment is required. 
  • Routine duties require sitting for prolonged periods, standing, walking, stooping, bending, stretching, and lifting up to 20 lbs.
